Peltzer Winery: Using Social Media to Go Beyond Wine

Peltzer Winery is located in Temecula, the wine country of Southern California. According to their Facebook, Peltzer Family Cellars is a winery, farm and vintage venue. What makes this winery stand out to me is everything that they do in addition to wine. From an ice rink to a  pumpkin farm and weddings to charity events. They have over 13,000 likes on Facebook and over 29,000 followers on Instagram. Right now, during COVID they are currently open for to-go wine orders and have reservations available for ice rink sessions. 

Promoting a Business Through Instagram and Facebook

Peltzer winery does a great job at using Instagram and Facebook to promote their business. In this age of new media it is more important than ever to use popular social media platforms to show people what your business is and what sets it apart from others. I think Peltzer does a great job at using social media to showcase why their winery is THE place to visit. For the most part, wineries tend to cater only to those that are of drinking age, which makes sense. However, Peltzer makes an effort to provide something for the whole family. The best example of this is the opening of their ice rink every winter season. Parents can come and enjoy fine wine, children can have fun out on the rink and everyone can enjoy the beauty of the entire property! Both their Instagram and Facebook accounts have great pictures and are very informational. However, if I were to offer some room for improvement I would suggest some sort of better organization. When someone comes in that knows nothing about the winery it is hard to figure out everything Peltzer has to offer. Since I think Peltzer has such a variety of things to offer I think it would be good if their accounts tell that from the very beginning. Since Instagram is mainly about pictures, I would suggest adding a larger about section on the Facebook page. In addition, since this is a family winery, including information about the family and how the winery was started would be another great thing to add in their about section. Despite this, I believe Peltzer Winery is one of the most successful wineries in the social media game. 

Peltzer Winery Promotions

What also makes Peltzer Winery stand out is the amount of promotions and special events they do. To promote their ice rink right now they brought in a professional figure skater and made a beautiful video of her tearing it up on their rink. The post seemed to do really well and bring in a lot of customers because it got a lot of engagement. Peltzer winery also seems to have a lot of connections to the motorsports industry. They hold Supercross watch parties that help to raise money for Road2Recovery. They have even had a professional racecar driver come on to their property and film a promotional video with the race truck ripping around the winery to support another charity. They also have events like family movie night, they bring in bands for “late night under the lights”, they have specials on “wine wednesday” and so much more. Doing these things that appeal to people with various interests does a great job at bringing in more and more customers. In addition it promotes their image in a positive way when they support charity and good causes. All of these are really cool, however, without social media they would not have quite the same impact as they would without it. With Instagram and Facebook Peltzer is able to reach a much larger audience with all of their cool promotions. 

The Importance of Photography

When using new media and Instagram especially, having good photos is everything. When promoting a business, using photography is very important. Especially for something like a winery venue that relies on photos to show people what their events could look like if they held them there at the winery.  In addition food and wine photography is its own world in itself. Setting up a photo with decorations and pleasing backgrounds to showcase a product is a form of art and is quite hard to do. Peltzer winery has many great photos of their products and property that were taken with purpose. Having good photos to showcase your product or business is extremely important when it comes to marketing and creating interest. As a side note, Peltzer winery even offers private sessions in their sunflower field with a photographer so you can get some great photos of your own. Photography is absolutely key in promoting a business on social media and Peltzer Winery is a great example of how to do it right.
